GenAI-powered protein generator EvolutionaryScale has raised USD 142 million in a seed round led by Nat Friedman, Daniel Gross, and Lux Capital, with participation from Amazon and NVenture, NVIDIA's venture arm.

The funds will be directed toward scaling up its model training to include data beyond proteins and to construct a uniquely versatile AI model relevant to biotech applications. Its ESM3 model is claimed to be trained on 2.78 billion proteins, allowing it to generate novel proteins intended for use in scientific discovery and material science. 

EvolutionaryScale is an AI biotechnology company that leverages advanced AI models to predict protein structures to support drug development, environmental remediation, and other biotech applications. Founded in 2023, the company’s technology builds on transformers-based models specialized in biological data, particularly protein molecules.
