Carbios and Zhink Group partner to build PET biorecycling plant in China

Partnerships

  • CARBIOS, a biotech firm that recycles PET plastics and polyester fibers using an enzymatic process, is partnering with Zhink Group, a leading Chinese PET and textiles industrial company, to establish a biorecycling plant.

  •  This collaboration will utilize CARBIOS's enzymatic depolymerization technology to recycle PET waste in a proposed plant in China. The minimum annual processing capacity at the plant will be 50k tons of PET waste, with potential for capacity expansion to serve regional and global packaging and textiles markets.

  • Analyst QuickTake: The partnership is a significant milestone in Carbios’ market entry into China, which accounts for ~61% of global PET production. Within this, Zhink produces 3 million tons of PET annually, serving domestic and global markets, and the partnership in China underlines the efficacy of Carbios’ model of licensing its recycling technology.
