Trinseo, a US-based global materials science company that produces plastic and latex binders, has unveiled its polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) depolymerization facility in Rho, Italy.
The facility's technology is centered around depolymerization, a chemical recycling process that transforms acrylic solutions back to their original monomer, methyl methacrylate (MMA). This facility can recycle PMMA sheets, which traditionally haven't been mechanically recyclable, and also ensures contaminants and additives are removed from used and new acrylic products, eventually leading to more recycling opportunities.
