GetYourGuide removes several experience categories from marketplace platform

Product updates

  • GetYourGuide is discontinuing certain categories from its platform. The changes are set to take effect from July 31.

  • The services being phased out mainly focus on independent or self-guided tourism. These include audio tours that allow tourists to explore destinations at their convenience and pace, exploration games and scavenger hunts, and rental facilities such as eSIMs, SIM cards, and vehicle rentals that do not include a tour or activity.

  • According to GetYourGuide, the changes have been made to optimize their platform and offerings, promising a better and improved customer experience. The changes allegedly affect less than 0.5% of the company's supply partners.

  • Analyst QuickTake: This approach contrasts with GetYourGuide's previous focus on expanding its marketplace platform by adding new categories, such as launching a sports category under the "Originals" collection in June 2023 . However, this shift aligns with market trends, as evidenced by Airbnb's removal of various individual and tour experiences from its platform in May 2024 .
