OroraTech partners with Greek government and institutions to build satellite-based wildfire defense system

Partnerships
Funding

  • OroraTech, a Germany-based provider of satellite-based wildfire detection and thermal intelligence, has been awarded a EUR 20 million (USD 21.5 million) contract by Greece's Ministry of Digital Governance to develop a national satellite-based wildfire early warning system.

  • The wildfire defense system will consist of four OroraTech thermal satellites and a network of ground sensors and processing services. OroraTech will collaborate with the European Space Agency (ESA), Greek universities such as the National Technical University of Athens and the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, and local companies such as Satways and Attisat to develop and deploy the system across Greece.

  • However, Greece's National Wildfire System will not be fully operational until OroraTech has its full constellation of 100 shoebox-sized satellites in orbit, scheduled for 2026.
