Databricks has announced the general availability of its AI-powered Databricks Assistant and AI-Generated Comments features, now available at no additional cost to all customers across all cloud platforms.

The Databricks Assistant is an AI-based pair programmer and support agent that helps users become more efficient when creating notebooks, queries, dashboards, and files. It can generate, optimize, complete, explain, and fix code and queries, leveraging the company's Unity Catalog metadata to understand the user's data assets and provide personalized responses.

According to Databricks, the AI assistant provides various benefits such as time savings, increased productivity, and reduced need for coding skills. During its public preview, Databricks Assistant was used by 150,000 active monthly users, who reported productivity increases of up to 50%.
