Meta announced that it will be phasing out App Lab and migrating all apps to the Quest Store from August 5. App Lab was an alternative store for experimental and in-development apps, while the Quest Store had strict content curation guidelines.
With this change, all new apps will be released directly on the Quest Store, and developers can tag apps still in development with an "Early Access" badge. Apps on the Quest Store will no longer be subject to the strict quality criteria previously in place, opening the store to all developers.
The move is set to offer developers better visibility and chances of success without artificial barriers, benefiting Meta’s app ecosystem. Conversely, consumers will have access to a wider range of apps on the Quest Store.
