Virgin Galactic has concluded the construction of its manufacturing facility and hangar complex at the Mesa Gateway Airport. This new two-hangar production facility will be fitted with all necessary tools and equipment by Q4 2024, and, starting in Q1 2025, it will be able to assemble the first two Delta spaceships.
Virgin Galactic claims the facility would create hundreds of jobs in the area and reinforce Mesa Gateway Airport as a top location for aerospace and aviation companies. Different components of the Delta, after being made in multiple locations throughout the US, will be collected for final assembly at the new facility.
After the Delta spaceships are manufactured, they would be transferred to Spaceport America in New Mexico for flight testing. The Delta spaceship, which can transport six passengers, is to fly up to eight missions each month and begin commercial operations by 2026.
