Sierra Space, a Colorado-based space company, announced that it has taken on two new partners, MUFG Bank Ltd. and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd., to expand to Japan.
The two new partners join Sierra Space's existing partners Oita Prefecture, Kanematsu Corporation, and Japan Airlines to explore the potential Spaceport Oita in Oita, Japan, as an Asian landing site for its Dream Chaser. The partnership also aims to discover other business opportunities for Sierra Space across Japan and Asia.
Analyst QuickTake: In June 2024 , Sierra Space's planned launch of the Dream Chaser was postponed by the United Launch Alliance (ULA); however, the company reported that it is working with the ULA and still plans to launch the spacecraft by the end of 2024.
