Via a social media post on X, ABL Space Systems, a launch services provider, announced that its second RS1 rocket was damaged after a pre-flight static fire test. The company reported that investigations are underway and that the rocket's launch has been postponed indefinitely.
ABL expects to obtain a significant portion of the small-satellite launch market with the 88-foot-tall RS1, which it claims can deliver up to ~1,350 kg of payload to low-Earth orbit (LEO) on each of its USD 12 million liftoffs.
Analyst QuickTake: As of July 2024, the RS1 rocket had only one flight—its first test mission in January 2023 . The rocket launch was unsuccessful, experiencing an anomaly and prematurely shutting down; it could not deliver the CubeSats to LEO as planned.
