MISTR, a telemedicine provider, has partnered with Walmart to offer free at-home HIV testing kits in select Walmart stores in Georgia.
The pilot program will distribute 3,000 test kits (while supplies last) at each of seven Walmart Supercenter locations in Georgia, focusing on Atlanta, Decatur, Ellenwood, Morrow, and Stockbridge. The initiative aims to combat high HIV rates in Georgia, particularly new cases, by providing accessible testing options. MISTR will also offer free treatment and follow-up care through its telehealth platform for positive results.
Based in Florida, MISTR is a telemedicine platform that provides online access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), long-term HIV care, and treatment for other sexually transmitted infections. Its platform aims to make HIV prevention accessible by eliminating the need for physical doctor visits and insurance hassles.
Analyst QuickTake: Besides helping MISTR’s market reach further, this partnership also helps Walmart further its goal of providing custom care to the HIV community. Last year, the retail giant began opening specialty pharmacies across several locations, including Colorado, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia, to address the specialized requirements of patients with HIV. Even though Walmart exited the telehealth market last month with its sale of MeMD , the company appears to be still committed to pushing forward its other healthcare initiatives.
