Sierra Space concludes second full-scale test of inflatable LIFE module

Product updates

  • Sierra Space, a Colorado-based space company, concluded its second full-scale burst test of its inflatable module, the Large Inflatable Flexible Environment (LIFE), which the company is developing for the Orbital Reef commercial space station and its work.

  • The company also announced it expects to fly the module as a standalone spacecraft and to test a module with a volume of 500 m3 by 2025.

  • Analyst QuickTake: The LIFE module was collaboratively developed by Blue Origin and Sierra Space as both a habitation and a payload element for the Orbital Reef commercial space station. The inflatable module had initial tests, with its one-third scale of the LIFE habitat, which burst at 192 psi in September 2022 .
