ZestyAI receives approval for storm models in Texas

Product updates
Regulation/policy

  • ZestyAI, a provider of AI-based property risk analytics solutions, has received approval from the Texas Department of Insurance for its Severe Convective Storm products. The approved products include Z-HAIL, Z-WIND, Z-STORM, and Z-PROPERTY Roof Quality, joining the previously approved Z-FIRE, a predictive wildfire risk model.

  • In 2023 alone, over 1,100 hail events were reported in Texas, making it the state with the highest annual hail claims in the US. The high incidence of severe storms was a key reason ZestyAI chose Texas as the first state to file its Severe Convective Storm product suite.

  • ZestyAI’s storm products have already received approvals from the Colorado Division of Insurance and the Illinois Department of Insurance earlier this year. Additional approvals from other hail belt states are expected in the coming months.

  • The AI-powered storm products predict the frequency and severity of severe storm losses for any property in the US. They analyze the interaction of climatology, geography, and the unique characteristics of structures and roofs, including accumulated damage from historical storms. The models allow carriers to move from territory-based segmentation to property-by-property risk assessment.
