TytoCare receives FDA clearance for AI-powered lung crackle detection

FDA approval

  • TytoCare, a virtual care company enabling primary care from home, has received FDA clearance for its product "Tyto Insights for Crackle Detection," a new AI-powered diagnostic tool. The tool will be added to TytoCare's Home Smart Clinic and Pro Smart Clinic solutions in the coming months.

  • Tyto Insights for Crackle Detection is designed to help clinicians detect lung crackles during virtual clinic visits in adults and children over two years old. The AI algorithm analyzes lung acoustic signals, flags exams with potential abnormal sounds indicative of crackles, and alerts providers to their presence.

  • TytoCare claims that this new AI-powered feature enhances clinician efficiency and diagnosis speed. The company also states that its Home Smart Clinic drives utilization rates 5x higher than traditional telehealth services, reduces total care costs by an average of 5%, and diverts emergency department (ED) visits by 10.8%.

  • Analyst QuickTake: This marks the second advancement TytoCare has made with regard to its product capabilities. In June 2024 , the company released a software update for its Home Smart Clinic offering to include additional features such as a fully integrated experience adaptable to different care modalities, the ability to share TytoCare exams with others, a provision for pre-visit exams, and a multimedia avatar named "Emma" for patient onboarding and engagement. Before this, TytoCare also increased its market presence by partnering with five new healthcare providers in May 2024 , extending its primary and urgent care services to over 2,500 schools in 31 US states.
