AutoFlight, a Shanghai-based eVTOL manufacturer, has completed its first eVTOL flight across the Yangtze River in the Qinghai province.
The eVTOL aircraft started its liftoff from the Nanjing UAV base in Pukou District, flew over the Yangtze River, and returned to the base. The journey was 25 km and lasted for 10 minutes. The flight is claimed to be the first cross-Yangtze River journey by an eVTOL weighing over one tonne, marking a key milestone for AutoFlight.
Nanjing is one of China's major economic centers. The 5.5 km distance between Nanjing UAV Base and Yuzui Wetland Park requires a 20 km drive of 25 minutes. However, an eVTOL aircraft could cover the distance in ~five minutes, reducing travel time by 80%. Introducing eVTOL would reduce road congestion and improve tourists' sightseeing experience.
