Xpeng Aeroht, a division of Xpeng Motors, an electric vehicle and smart car manufacturer, has secured USD 150 million to develop and produce its eVTOL car in Guangzhou.
The company also announced that it has started the next funding round as it prepares to construct new manufacturing facilities in Guangzhou.
Xpeng Aeroht's eVTOL car, the Land Aircraft Carrier, is a six-wheeled off-roader that can carry ~five passengers. It can release a separate two-seat airborne module, which takes off and lands vertically like a helicopter. The ground vehicle also recharges the airborne module. The company reported that the Land Aircraft Carrier pre-sales are expected to start in the final quarter of 2024.
Analyst QuickTake: Xpeng Aeroht released new concept video footage for its Land Aircraft Carrier in July 2024 . The company also claimed that eVTOL cars use "dirty energy" fuel sources, producing over 50% less harmful carbon pollution than conventional cars.
