Evo Foods, a plant-based egg developer in India, has secured INR 6.2 crores (USD 845,000) in a pre-seed funding round from investors, including Sustainable Food Ventures, Capital V, VegInvest, Dr. Sandhya Sriram, Stephanie Downs, and Kale United. This round of funding is claimed to be one of the largest reported by an early-stage company in India.
The company intends to utilize the new funds to expand its R&D and marketing teams, launch across Indian foodservice outlets in Q2 2021, and launch overseas by 2022.
Founded in 2019, Evo Foods is the first company in India to specialize in producing plant-based liquid eggs. The company uses biotechnology and fermentation techniques to create a protein alternative from legumes and other plant-based ingredients. Evo Foods received PETA India’s “Most Innovative Company” award in 2021.
