The UK Royal Mint has opened a facility in South Wales designed to recover valuable metals from electronic waste, primarily gold. With this move, the Mint is banking on the growing issue of electronic waste to undertake an innovative recycling process. The facility will process up to four thousand tonnes of circuit boards annually.
The plant's functioning includes processing discarded printed circuit boards (PCBs). The process involves extracting precious metals like gold from the PCBs, reducing waste in landfills.
