Industry news

  • According to The Information, Meta is reportedly in talks with Jio, India's largest mobile service provider, to license its Horizon VR software. The potential deal will involve Meta providing its Horizon software to power a VR device that Jio would develop.

  • By licensing Meta Horizon OS to Jio, Meta could potentially expand its reach in the Asian market and establish itself as a leading platform in the XR segment. This move aligns with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision of an "open model" for XR operating systems, similar to Windows and Android.

  • Analyst QuickTake: In April 2024 , Meta opened its Horizon OS for third-party device makers. Subsequently, Asus, Lenovo, and Microsoft announced their intentions to develop devices running on the software.
