Eeden, a Germany-based startup developing a scalable chemical textile recycling technology, has partnered with the Center Textile Logistics (CTL) at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, apparel and footwear research organization Hohenstein Innovations, and material flow and logistics company Fraunhofer IML for a project that aims to enable large-scale conversion of old textiles into new, high-quality materials.
This project, which is worth over EUR 625,000 (~USD 682,865), is co-funded by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union.
The project aims to identify technological and logistical enhancements to promote a circular textile economy that optimizes Eeden’s fiber-to-fiber recycling process. It is reported that the focus is on the effective management of textile waste, introducing a resource-saving supply chain from collection to recycling, and examining used textiles to determine their properties following numerous cleaning cycles.
