Skyway partners with The Edge Company to survey the use of AI in mitigating wildlife risks

Partnerships

  • Skyway, a provider of eVTOL vertiport infrastructure and traffic management services, has partnered with The Edge Company, an Italy-based developer of AI and deep technology solutions for various sectors including aerospace, aviation safety, and smart mobility.

  • The collaboration will utilize expertise in AI and computer vision from The Edge Company and Skyway to develop systems capable of detecting and mitigating wildlife risks in real time. The systems will facilitate safe and sustainable infrastructure for urban air mobility (UAM) and will protect wildlife in urban areas.

  • Engagements with wildlife, particularly bird strikes, pose a serious risk to aircraft at lower altitudes. The challenge is more crucial for UAM due to closer proximity to natural wildlife habitats and the recurrence of operations up to 3,000 ft above ground level.
