VR treadmill developer Virtuix is set to formally launch the Omni One (priced at USD 2,595) on September 10, 2024.
The Omni One utilizes a concave saucer-shaped platform and special footwear. Users move by slipping in place on the platform, allowing for more natural movement in VR environments without causing nausea or discomfort often associated with stationary VR experiences.
Analyst QuickTake: VR treadmills are generally marketed at a steep price point compared to XR headsets (ranging from ~USD 300–1,000), which could inhibit consumer uptake. However, Virtuix claims to have sold over 3,000 Omni One units during its pre-order period last year and also raised USD 4.7 million in crowdfunding ( August 2023 ), aimed at increasing its production capacity.
