RAZ Mobility, a company specializing in cell phones for seniors, has released an update to its RAZ Memory Cell Phone. The phone is designed for seniors experiencing cognitive decline, vision loss, or hand tremors or those who need a simple user experience. The updated version includes new features aimed at reducing social isolation and improving emergency service access.
The update introduces a "loneliness alerts" feature, which allows caregivers to set a target for the number of calls the senior should participate in daily. If the target is not met, the caregiver receives a text message alert. Additionally, the update provides new options for accessing emergency services, including an emergency icon on the home screen, emergency services as a contact, and the ability to dial 911 using the keypad.
RAZ Mobility claims these new features will help reduce social isolation among seniors and provide more flexible and controlled access to emergency services. The company cites a 2023 US Surgeon General's Advisory that highlighted the significant health impacts of social disconnection, comparing it to smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day.
