Vuzix improves waveguide manufacturing process for AR glasses

Product updates

  • Vuzix has developed a new micro-touch manufacturing technique for optical waveguides used in AR smart glasses. The company's waveguides are produced in Class 1000 clean room environments using customized equipment.

  • The new micro-touch manufacturing technique improves the waveguide imprinting process. It reduces forces that can distort or damage materials, allows the use of more fragile materials like polymers or thinner glass, and enhances optical performance. The process also aims to increase yields and boost production rates.

  • Vuzix claims this advancement will support production rates in the millions of units annually and differentiate its competitive capabilities. The company sees itself as a go-to supplier for waveguides, with firms like Garmin and Quanta among its customers.
