OpenAI bans Iranian accounts spreading US election disinformation

Management news

  • OpenAI has banned ChatGPT accounts linked to an Iranian group called Storm-2035, which is suspected of spreading fake news about the upcoming US presidential campaign on social media sites.

  • The group used ChatGPT to generate long-form articles and short social comments about presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump as well as other politically charged topics.

  • The company claimed it had identified 12 accounts on X and one on Instagram involved in this operation, which had also targeted five websites, posing as both liberal and conservative news outlets.
