Near Protocol, a layer-1 blockchain, has launched Chain Signatures, a technology that allows smart contracts to sign transactions across multiple blockchains without relying on cross-chain bridges.
Chain Signatures utilizes a decentralized multi-party computation (MPC) network, enabling NEAR accounts to sign transactions on various blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, XRP, Cosmos, and Polkadot. The technology supports bridgeless Omnichain DeFi and the creation of Omnichain tokens that can be issued on multiple chains.
Near Protocol states that Chain Signatures aims to simplify multichain dApp development by reducing the need for multiple wallets and manual bridging. The company suggests this approach could enhance user experience and increase asset liquidity and utility across blockchains.
