US Army reportedly considers replacing Microsoft for 'IVAS Next' program

Industry news

  • The US Army is reportedly preparing to recompete the prime contractor position for its Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) under the "IVAS Next" initiative, potentially replacing Microsoft.

  • Industry sources indicate that the Army is open to new competition for a combat-suitable headset. Eighty companies attended a December industry day to learn about IVAS Next plans.

  • Microsoft, the current IVAS contractor, faces potential trouble with its high-dollar production deal but intends to compete for IVAS Next despite downsizing its mixed-reality department.

  • The IVAS program has faced ongoing issues, including soldier complaints of discomfort and system reliability, leading the Army to split the program into multiple iterations and consider alternatives for its future development.
