Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 for affordable on-device GenAI

  • Qualcomm announced its Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 Mobile Platform, designed to bring GenAI capabilities to more affordable smartphones.

  • The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 supports LLMs like Baichuan-7 billion and Llama 2. Key improvements compared to its predecessor include a 20% increment in CPU performance, over 30% AI performance, and up to 40% accelerated and 12% overall power savings. Leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), such as Samsung and Xiaomi, are expected to announce the adoption of their platform in the following months.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Qualcomm has been focused on democratizing user access to on-device GenAI capabilities, having announced the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chipset ( March 2024 ) for low-tier devices. Additionally, its competitors in the system-on-a-chip (SoC) market, such as MediaTek, have also been introducing chips with similar capabilities.
