Colorado has established comprehensive regulations for its emerging psilocybin industry following the approval of Proposition 122. The rules cover licensing procedures for mushroom growers, product manufacturers, and therapy centers.
The regulations allow for producing various psilocybin products, including dried mushrooms, tea bags, capsules, and edibles, with strict dosage limits. A serving is 10 mg of psilocin or approximately 1 g of dried mushrooms. Further, consumption of psilocybin products is restricted to individuals over the age of 21 and under-supervised settings in state-regulated healing centers, with no sales permitted for home use. The framework aims to balance potential benefits with public safety concerns. The state plans to launch its first round of psilocybin business license applications by December 31.
Analyst QuickTake: In November 2022 , the State of Colorado passed a psychedelic decriminalization ballot, Proposition 122, with a 51% majority vote to allow the legal use of psilocybin mushrooms in healing centers as a treatment for anxiety and depression. The State of Colorado became the second state to legalize psilocybin after the State of Oregon.
