Starpath Robotics, a developer of space exploration hardware and rocket propellant, has raised USD 12 million in seed funding. The funding was raised by a group of venture investors led by 8VC and Fusion Fund, along with participation from Day One Ventures, Balerion Space, and Indicator Ventures.
The funding will be used to construct a full-scale terrestrial demonstration of its lunar resource extraction system and accelerate its path to testing on the Moon.
The company emerged from stealth in September 2023, unveiling its water-harvesting architecture, which involves mining rovers, refineries, and LOX storage systems.
With NASA canceling its VIPER rover in July 2024, Starpath reported submitting a proposal to fill the empty cargo bay on Astrobotic Technology's Griffin lander with Starpath's technology demonstrator. Starpath's planned operation system for the proposal will include a basketball court-sized solar tower, a fleet of NASA rovers, and an autonomous thermal processing plant that can melt ice, split water into hydrogen and oxygen, and liquefy oxygen.
