Pico Interactive launches Motion Trackers at USD 55 for VR leg tracking

Product updates

  • ByteDance subsidiary Pico Interactive launched the Pico Motion Trackers, an accessory for leg tracking compatible with Pico 4 Ultra, Pico 4, and Pico Neo 3 headsets. The trackers will be available for preorder in China at CNY 400 (~USD 55) for a pair, with shipping starting September 2, 2024.

  • The Pico Motion Trackers combine inertial measurement units (IMUs) with 12 infrared LEDs to track motion. They offer 3-DoF tracking using IMUs and 6-DoF positional tracking when in view of the headset's cameras. The trackers weigh 27 g each, provide 25 hours of active use, and charge via USB-C.

  • Pico Interactive claims the trackers have an average position error of 5 cm, an average angle error of 6°, and 98% accuracy for step recognition. The company also states that the trackers will be supported in over 20 standalone VR games on the Chinese Pico Store and in PC VR apps via the Pico Connect streaming app.

  • Analyst QuickTake: The product’s exclusivity for leg-tracking allows it to be positioned at a more affordable price point for consumers. In comparison, full-body tracking solutions offered by HTC include its Vive Ultimate Tracker, priced at USD 199, and Sony’s mocopi, priced at USD 449.
