AstroForge secures USD 40 million in Series A funding round

Funding

  • AstroForge, an asteroid space mining startup, has raised USD 40 million through a Series A funding round led by Nova Threshold. The funding round included participation from funds 776, Initialized, Caladan, YC and Uncorrelated Ventures, and individual investor Jed McCaleb.

  • AstroForge reported that the funds will be used for the company's third mission, Vestri. The 200 kg spacecraft will launch as a rideshare payload on Intuitive Machines' IM-3 lunar lander mission in 2025 and travel to an undisclosed asteroid. The funds will also be used to enhance technologies for refining asteroid materials in deep space.

  • Analyst QuickTake: AstroForge partnered with Intuitive Machines in January 2023 to launch its Bokkr-2 deep space vehicle (later renamed Odin). However, in July 2024, the company announced that it failed vibration testing in March and had further problems with the spacecraft's propellant tanks, wire harnesses, and avionics. This resulted in AstroForge postponing Odin's flight.
