UNIFI, a North-Carolina based manufacturer of recycled and synthetic yarns, announced the launch of white-dyeable filament yarn and an insulation material named "ThermaLoop" as part of its REPREVE product line for recycled polyester products. These raw materials for the products have been sourced via UNIFI's Textile Takeback initiative.
The company claims it uses 100% recycled polyester feedstock, with at least 50% textile waste, and that the two new products both achieve virgin-quality standards. The white-dyeable REPREVE filament yarn is claimed to be high-quality polyester suited for "critical applications." ThermaLoop insulation features down-like fiber, fiberball, and padding and offers performance, recovery, and thermally efficient properties.
Analyst QuickTake: UNIFI announced an expansion of its Textile Takeback initiative in November 2022 by introducing its REPREVE line. The initiative supports global brands in extending the lifecycle of their materials by recycling their waste. UNIFI aims to process textile waste equivalent to 1.5 billion T-shirts by 2030.
