Covestro, a Germany-based polymer manufacturer, is partnering with Carlisle Construction Materials, a company that manufactures and supplies building materials, to offer bio-based construction materials for building insulation.
Covestro will provide Carlisle with methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), which is used in the manufacturing of partially renewable polyurethane rigid foam insulation panels. This MDI is derived from mass-balanced bio-circular raw materials and is claimed to leave a significantly lower carbon footprint than its fossil-based counterparts.
