Naplasol acquires Mycorena after bankruptcy filing

M&A

  • Naplasol, a member of the VEOS Group specializing in biomass fermentation for mycoprotein production, has acquired Swedish mycoprotein company Mycorena for an undisclosed sum.

  • Mycorena, founded in 2017,  is known for its flagship product, "Promyc," a mycoprotein with a neutral taste and fibrous texture. Its portfolio also included Mycolein, a fungi-based fat product, and Mycoprotein Extrusion and Alignment Technology (M.E.A.T) for creating whole cuts of meat with fibrous structures. Further, the company has introduced consumer products in six EU countries through partnerships with companies like Peas of Heaven , Rebl Eats , and RIP (Rich in Plants) .

  • Naplasol plans to produce Promyc at its industrial facility in Bree, Belgium, to enhance its portfolio and offer new sustainable proteins. The acquisition is expected to benefit both companies through complementary knowledge and products.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Mycorena filed for bankruptcy earlier this year after facing significant financial challenges. The company's acquisition quickly reaffirms its ability to provide lucrative opportunities in alternative proteins due to its many patents, trademarks, and other valuable assets. Further, it highlights the potential of mycoprotein as a sustainable protein ingredient.
