Meta reportedly cancels development of high-end Vision Pro competitor

Product updates
Industry news

  • As reported by The Information, Meta has halted plans for a high-end mixed reality headset, codenamed "La Jolla," which was intended to compete with Apple's Vision Pro.

  • The decision was influenced by the high cost of micro-OLED displays, which made it difficult to keep the headset's price under USD 1,000, and concerns about the market appetite for premium VR devices.

  • Despite this setback, Meta continues work on other headsets and mixed reality tech, including a more affordable Quest headset, new AR glasses, and the Quest 4, rumored to have standard and premium versions arriving in 2026.
