Coles, an Australian supermarket chain, has opened two customer fulfillment centers (CFCs) in Sydney and Melbourne in partnership with Ocado Group, a British online grocery technology company. This collaboration marks Ocado's 25th live CFC globally.
The CFCs utilize Ocado's Smart Platform, incorporating AI and automation for ecommerce, fulfillment, and logistics in online grocery retail. These facilities aim to improve customer service with enhanced freshness, improved order rates, and expanded product ranges.
The partnership expects to transition next-day home delivery orders from metropolitan stores to the CFCs by year-end, with further growth anticipated in 2025.
Analyst QuickTake: Coles and Ocado initially announced the two CFCs in Sydney and Melbourne in 2019 and planned to launch them last year. However, construction delays pushed the timeline back.
