Vector database company Pinecone launched its serverless vector database offering across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud to provide an optimized, managed approach with usage-based pricing.
The serverless vector database removes the complexity of infrastructure service management, allowing users to interact with reads, writes, and storage in terms of capacity. It offers scalability, enabling users to start applications with any number of vectors without worrying about compute resources.
Pinecone has also introduced new features, including bulk data import, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for data governance, and a new software development kit (SDK) for easier integration into dot net applications. The company claims these updates enhance the platform's utility and differentiate it from competitors in the growing vector database market.
Analyst QuickTake: The news follows Pinecone’s introduction of reranking capabilities, which help GenAI models utilize more relevant data at a lower computational cost. Additionally, Pinecone partnered with Gathr Data ( June 2024 ) to use its fabric and data processing capabilities to create scalable AI applications.
