Volkswagen partners with AirConsole for in-car gaming platform

Partnerships

  • Car maker Volkswagen has partnered with AirConsole, a gaming platform specifically designed for cars, to bring in-car gaming to several Volkswagen EV models.

  • The gaming platform will be available in Volkswagen's ID range, including the ID.7 Tourer, ID.5, ID.4, and ID.3, as well as the new Passat, Tiguan, Golf, and Golf Estate. AirConsole transforms the car's infotainment display into a gaming console, with smartphones as controllers. The platform supports multiplayer gaming and only functions when the vehicle is parked or charging.

  • Volkswagen plans to launch AirConsole in European countries starting mid-September 2024, with more games and countries to be added by the end of 2024 or early 2025.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Volkswagen is now joining the trend of integrating in-car gaming, following the footsteps of automakers like Tesla and BMW, which have already enhanced their connected vehicle features with gaming solutions.
