New School Foods raises USD 6 million in seed extension funding to begin production

Funding

  • Canadian plant-based seafood company New School Foods has raised USD 6 million in a seed extension round led by Inter IKEA, with participation from Good Startup, NewTree Capital, and Hatch.

  • The funds will support New School Foods' upcoming launch in US and Canadian restaurants. The company has also opened a 28,000 sq ft. pilot production facility in Toronto, housing its V1 Commercial Assembly Line, to begin production of its whole-cut salmon filet.

  • Analyst QuickTake: New School Foods’ last funding round was in February 2023 , when it raised USD 12 million in seed funding to scale up operations and build a research and production facility. Further, the company received an investment from PIC to develop and commercialize plant-based whole-muscle salmon with a taste and texture akin to real salmon.
