Ocean Oasis secures EUR 6 million in grant funding to develop wave-powered desalination

Funding

  • Norwegian wave-powered desalination company Ocean Oasis has received a EUR 6 million (USD 6.6 million) grant from the European Executive Agency on Climate, Infrastructure and Environment (CINEA) under the Circular Economy and Quality of Life program. The funding will support the Desalination for Environmental Sustainability and LIFE (DESALIFE) project.

  • The DESALIFE project will support the development and deployment of the first fleet of offshore desalination buoys off the coast of Gran Canaria, Spain. The project aims to have the first pre-commercial buoys operational by mid-2026, producing fresh water for up to 15,000 people in the region. The project will address water scarcity issues in the Canary Islands without increasing energy consumption, CO2 emissions, or brine discharge.
