Flight simulator company Dogfight Boss and XR headset creator Varjo have partnered to provide mixed reality F-16 simulators for pilot training.
The companies have shipped their first MR F-16 simulator to an unspecified Ukrainian Fighter Pilot Base in Kyiv. The simulator allows pilots to fly virtual missions while seeing a passthrough of their instrument cluster, offering a more realistic training experience. This development aims to help accelerate pilot training as Ukraine receives F-16 jets from NATO members.
Dogfight Boss reports a promising reception to the MR simulator and notes an urgent need for additional units to support cooperative training scenarios. The company suggests the possibility of shipping at least eight more simulators to the Ukrainian military.
Analyst QuickTake: Varjo has seen increasing demand for its mixed reality headset from the defense sector, as evidenced by the company’s plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Finland.
