nDreams to lay off up to 17.5% of workforce among market conditions

Industry news

  • UK-based VR game development studio nDreams announced potential layoffs affecting up to 17.5% of its workforce due to a challenging VR games market. The company is implementing a renewed strategic focus to address market difficulties, with the restructuring expected to impact all levels, including senior leadership.

  • With nDreams employing between 201 and 500 people, the layoffs could affect anywhere from 35 to 88 jobs. The company stated that layoffs will not affect ongoing projects like Frenzies and Vendetta Forever.

  • Analyst QuickTake: From 2023 onwards, the game development industry has continued to see a series of layoffs. Most recently, this included Microsoft laying off 650 employees from its Xbox gaming division, the closure of Meta’s Ready at Dawn game development studio, and the shutdown of VR game development studio Archiact.
