Cruise, General Motors' self-driving vehicle unit, has announced plans to resume limited robotaxi testing in California this fall. The company will operate up to five vehicles with test drivers in Sunnyvale and Mountain View, California.
The testing will be small-scale and focused on development work. Cruise vehicles will have test drivers at the wheel, marking a shift from their previous fully autonomous operations.
This move follows a nearly year-long hiatus following a pedestrian accident that led to the suspension of Cruise’s driverless robotaxi deployment permit in California.
