Daimler opens preorders for its eCascadia and eM2 battery-electric trucks

Product updates

  • Daimler Trucks North America, the truck division of the German automaker Daimler, has opened preorders for its battery-electric trucks “eCascadia” and “eM2.” The prices of the two models have not yet been disclosed.

  • The eM2 model can cover a distance of 230 miles in a single charge, while the eCascadia model can cover 250 miles in a single charge. The company claims that both trucks will be the longest-range commercial electric vehicles on sale in the US. The electric powertrain for both the models are supplied by Detroit Diesel, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler.

  • The company plans to begin production of the units in late 2022.

  • In addition to electric trucks, the company also unveiled an autonomous truck under the banner “Freightliner Inspiration,” a working prototype of a semi-autonomous heavy-duty truck with Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Level 2 autonomy (i.e., vehicles can control both the speed and the steering but require a safety driver to oversee the operation).
