Mike Suffredini, CEO and co-founder of Axiom Space, has stepped down from the position citing personal reasons. Kam Ghaffarian, the co-founder, has taken over as interim CEO.
The company reportedly struggles to make payroll and is late paying contractors, including SpaceX. Due to financial difficulties, Axiom has implemented several cost-cutting measures, including staff layoffs and voluntary pay cuts.
Axiom Space is also struggling to find external capital, and its private astronaut missions have been operating at losses.
Analyst QuickTake: In August 2024 , Axiom Space postponed its next Ax-4 astronaut mission to the International Space Station (ISS) from October 2024 to 2025 due to interagency approval processes. The company's recent financial downturn may further delay its upcoming astronaut missions and the development of its low-Earth orbit space station.
