Pivotal, a provider of light eVTOL aircraft, has announced that its team and customers completed 1,117 crewed flights in BlackFly aircraft. The company claims this milestone to be the first in-light eVTOL aircraft and all powered-lift eVTOLs.
BlackFly, Pivotal's pre-production eVTOL aircraft, features simplified flight controls and reduced complexity. It immerses the pilot in the flight experience, minimizes points of failure, and offers a high degree of safety. The aircraft has been delivered to individual owners nationwide through an Early Access Program.
Pivotal is now taking orders for Helix, its new production aircraft that builds on BlackFly's innovation. The company claims that its eVTOLs are suitable for recreation, short commutes in rural areas, neighborhood visits, and exploring new terrain.
Analyst QuickTake: Pivotal's Blackfly was unveiled and had its first test flight in October 2011, and the company claimed at the time it was the world's first all-electric, fixed-wing, eVTOL aircraft for personal transportation. Blackfly has been rigorously trialed on test flights over the past 13 years since its initial launch. The company launched its Helix, an electric single-passenger eVTOL, in January 2024 . Helix is currently available for pre-order starting at USD 190,000, with expected delivery in 2025.
