BlackSky Technology, a space-based intelligence company, has been awarded a five-year contract for global monitoring services worth up to USD 290 million by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).
The contract, Luno A, involves using BlackSky's satellite imagery and AI-driven analytics to monitor global economic and environmental activity and military capability. BlackSky will provide services to detect and identify objects of interest, monitor changes over critical infrastructure, and develop new AI solutions for data analysis.
This contract follows BlackSky's previous USD 60 million Economic Indicator Monitoring (EIM) contract with NGA, awarded in September 2021 . The new Luno A contract supports NGA's efforts to modernize workflows and integrate commercial data into its enterprise capabilities.
Analyst QuickTake: In September 2024 , BlackSky Technology was also awarded a USD 476 million NASA contract to provide Earth observation data to support NASA's Earth science research and application activities. In the same month , BlackSky announced its plans to equip its Gen-3 satellites with laser terminals and expand into the defense sector for satellites.
