FitXR, a popular virtual reality fitness app, has introduced a mixed-reality mode for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets. This feature allows users to experience all FitXR studios through the color pass-through of the Quest headsets, enabling them to be aware of their surroundings during workouts.
The mixed-reality mode embeds virtual workouts in the real world, allowing users to adapt the fitness experience to their space. Users can enable Mixed Reality by selecting a training session and ticking the MR option in the settings. A slider in the pause menu allows adjustment of the degree to which virtual and real worlds are mixed.
FitXR states that the new feature is particularly useful for users with limited space or obstacles in their workout area. It also allows pet owners to keep an eye on their animals while exercising.
Analyst QuickTake: FitXR has been increasingly incorporating mixed reality into its workouts. In December 2023 , the company launched Slam, which uses proprietary algorithms to transform a room into a 3D game, utilizing floors, walls, and ceilings for interactive fitness.
