WeRide, a Chinese self-driving technology firm, has unveiled its next-generation production robotaxi called the GXR. The GXR can be accessed through WeRide's mobile app in China.
The GXR measures 5,018 mm in length and has a cabin clearance of 1,340 mm and a wheelbase of 3,100 mm. It features a multi-purpose vehicle design and has eliminated the first-row passenger seat to provide more space. The robotaxi is equipped with WeRide's full-scenario L4 autonomous driving hardware and software systems (i.e., fully autonomous vehicles limited to specific locations and/or conditions), including the Sensor Suite 5.6 and HPC 2.0 computing platform.
WeRide claims the GXR can handle complex scenarios, including rush hour traffic, mixed pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and nighttime highway driving. The company also emphasizes safety features, including a comprehensive redundancy system to prevent single-point failures and a soft-edged cabin design with emergency exit signage and safety tools.
